Q: How much does concrete cost?
A: Concrete countertops run between $90 and $130 per square foot. The exact price depends on the color chosen, style of edge, sink type, etc.
Q: What colors can I choose from?
A: We have more than 49 colors in our showroom, and we can make a custom color to fit your needs. Our colors do tend to change over time, so check the date on the back of the sample to determine if your sample was poured recently (within the last year!). The color variations are similar to dye-lot differences in the fabric industry. We use the same formula each time we pour the concrete, but the color can vary from batch to batch. We CANNOT guarantee that the color chosen will exactly match the sample.
Q: Is there an added cost for having a custom color made?
A: Custom colors are $600 in addition to standard pricing.
Q: How are the colors made?
A: Most of our colors are pigments that are mixed in with the concrete. A few of our colors have an acid finish, which is applied after the concrete has cured.
Q: How long does it take to have a custom concrete piece made?
A: From the time we template, installation is usually within 8 weeks, depending upon work load and details in the pieces being cast.
Q: Will you pour the concrete on location?
A: No. We do not pour on site. All products are pre-cast (fabricated in our factory).
Q: Will there be any seams in my concrete?
A: Seams are necessary for pieces over 10 feet in length and/or 25 square feet. The seams are approximately 1/16" to 1/8" wide and are filled with a colored resin that matches the color of your countertops.
Q: How can we protect our concrete once its in place?
A: We use two types of sealer to protect the concrete from staining and to give the concrete a nice, finished look. For products sealed with Allen's Resin, you can help protect this sealer by not cutting directly on the concrete and by not placing any materials that are extremely hot directly on the concrete (above 400 degrees F). If the sealer is damaged, it can be fixed. To extend the life of the sealer, don't use abrasive cleaners on the countertops (Soft Scrub, Ajax, etc), just clean them with soapy water. To obtain that showroom look, clean them with Pledge or another gentle cleanser. We do recommend that the concrete be re-sealed every 5 to 7 years, depending on wear and tear. Re-sealing is a simple 2-day process that is done in place. The other type of sealer we use is Natural Coat, which penetrates down into the concrete, eliminating the problem of surface scratches by removing the sealer from the top of the concrete. Natural Coat sealer is sensitive to oils and acids. Oils have a tendency to leave dark spots, and acid will whiten the concrete it touches. For products sealed with Natural Coat, a fresh coat of wax should be applied every 6-12 months. This is a simple process that can be done by the owners.
Q: Will there be any cracks in the concrete?
A: Hairline cracks can develop, but not very frequently. Hairline cracks will not affect the structural integrity of your countertop. We experience it in approximately 1 out of every 25 pours. They are inevitable and a natural characteristic of concrete. If a hairline crack does appear, we patch it as best we can if you would like, but it will be visible. Most clients prefer the aged appearance of this natural occurrence. It is one of those features that makes each piece absolutely unique.
Q: How much does concrete weigh?
A: We use a light-weight aggregate, so the concrete is half the weight of normal concrete, but has twice the strength. There is no need to reinforce floors or cabinets. We mount our countertops directly on cabinets, so there is no need for sub-tops. If there will be an overhang over 9", such as for a bar/eating area, we do suggest corbels, legs, or a steel plate for additional support for the concrete. (We can include the price for a steel plate in our proposal, if requested). The concrete weighs 15 pounds per square foot at our standard thickness (1 5/8").
Q: Do you have a product warranty?
A: Yes. We will replace or repair any countertop that is defective due to the workmanship of the piece for two years after it is installed. If the homeowner has done damage to the countertop, we will try our best to repair it, but will charge a fee for our service.
Q: What can be made out of concrete?
A: We have made many types of objects with concrete. The most popular are kitchen countertops, bathroom vanities, sinks and fireplace surrounds. We can also make tables, backsplashes, tub surrounds, BBQ surrounds, columns, tiles, wall panels, bath tubs or other objects. Just fax us a drawing of what you would like!
Q: Can you repair concrete that was made by someone else?
A: We can reseal and refinish concrete countertops that were manufactured by someone other than Concrete Revolution. We will need to visit the location prior to performing the work. A fee will be charged for this initial visit, but will be reduced from the full price if the client hires us to reseal their countertops.
Q: How do I get a quote for a project?
A: Please fill out our online request for proposal.
