Maintenance
Concrete can last a thousand years. And as long as spills are wiped up, it won't discolor. But, over time, the sealer will show scratches and develop wear areas. This is a natural part of the aging process and the sealer can be easily restored. To keep your concrete in the best shape possible, please follow the guidelines offered below.
For Allen's Resin Products:
- General Maintenance Guidelines (every 6 to 12 months):
- Lightly rub counter tops using steel wool (grade 0000) to remove any minor surface scratches. Do not use too much pressure or rub too hard-too much force will create more scratches. (Note: if scratches are deep and cannot be removed by steel wool, follow scratch removal guidelines.)
- Clean surface with window cleaner. Allow to dry.
- Apply rubbing compound using rubbing pad. Allow to dry.
- Use clean cheese cloth to remove rubbing compund.
- Clean surface with window cleaner.
- Scratch Removal Guidelines:
- Clean surface with window cleaner. Allow to dry.
- Apply lacquer with small brush to cover scratch. Wipe off any excess lacquer. Note: before using lacquer, test a small area first.
- After 5 to 10 minutes use clean rag with lacquer thinner to wipe off any remaining excess lacquer. (Note: before using lacquer thinner, test a small area first. Lacquer thinner is a very strong solvent, and if not monitored can etch the original sealer.)
- Clean surface with window cleaner.
- To blend area with the rest of the piece, follow the general maintenance guidelines on entire piece.
