Maintenance
Concrete can last a thousand years. To keep your concrete in the best shape possible, please follow the guidelines offered below. For concrete sealed with our Resilient Sealer (Kitchen and Bathroom):OverviewConcrete Revolution's propriety Resilient Surface Sealer is a modified epoxy sealant that produces no out gassing and has very low VOCs. This makes it not only a great stain protectant, but also a safe choice for your health and the environment! Our signature surface sealer is very durable and will give years of protection. It will protect against staining from oils and acids used in a kitchen or bathroom. With regular usage, the sealer may develop wear areas or minor surface scratches. However, these can easily be fixed. Minor Scratches: For minor discoloration or surface scratches, we recommend Pledge, olive oil, or another oil/wax-based cleaner. Simply rub the Pledge deeply into the concrete with a rag to remove minor discoloration or surface scratches. Regular Maintenance: You may regularly clean with soap and water, or you may clean your countertops with Pledge or another gentle cleanser to obtain a showroom look. Do NOT use any abrasive cleaners (such as Soft Scrub or Ajax). Avoid placing extremely hot pans or materials directly on the Resilient Sealer. It can typically hold up to about 300 degrees Fahrenheit, but it is always better to use trivets (which can be added to your countertop design). Do not cut directly on concrete sealed with our Resilient Sealer. Always use a cutting board (which we can even customize for you!). If the sealer is accidentally cut on, it can be fixed, but this is not covered in the two-year warranty. Be careful if this occurs, as oils and acids can get under the breached sealer and stain the concrete. Protect the area until you schedule a time for us to repair the sealer. For regularly used areas (kitchens and sometimes bathrooms), we recommend that these areas be resealed about every 5-7 years, depending on wear and tear. Resealing is a simple 2-3 day process that is done in place. Give us a call if you think you need to schedule a reseal. Areas with little or no usage may not need to be resealed as often, or may never need to be resealed. For Natural Coat Sealer (Fireplaces, Wall Panels, Tiles, Kitchen Sinks etc.):OverviewNatural Coat is a penetrating sealer used in areas outside of the kitchen (except for the bowl of the main concrete kitchen sink) and bathroom. The benefit of this sealer is a slightly lower cost, and it is less prone to scratching. However, concrete that is sealed with the Natural Coat sealer will be sensitive to oils and acids, which will patina the concrete over time and with use (oils will have a tendency to leave dark spots, and acids will leave white spots). General Maintenance Guidelines: Apply a new coat of liquid wax over the entire concrete surface every 3-6 months. This is a simple process that can be done by the owners. This will protect the material, but will not protect the concrete from staining. You may purchase the wax at a local hardware store. To help hide stains that have already occurred, apply a coat of olive oil over the entire concrete surface. This will darken the overall appearance of the concrete color, and will blend the stains that may occur from oils and acids, but will not eliminate them. You may apply several coats if needed, and may repeat the process on a regular basis.
